Cheap Buffalo Wing Recipe

The Superbowl gives me yet another excuse to munch on some Buffalo wings. The pic above is what I made just now. Yummy.

The problems is that wings can be expensive. Why not make them yourself? It’s cheap and it’s easy. I estimate the total cost of making them this way is about 20 – 25 cents per wing.

What do you need?

  1. Bag of frozen chicken wing sections
  2. Unsalted butter
  3. Hot sauce.  I recommend Frank’s Red Hot Original (Cayenne Pepper Sauce) or the “Lousiana” Hot Sauce (with the red dot). You can see what they look like below.

For deep frying:

  1. Frying oil of course. I just use normal cooking oil
  2. I recommend the Presto FryDaddy, although you could also use a generic pan. With the FryDaddy, you’ll use less oil and can reuse the oil easily. No need to worry about temperatures either.

Steps

  1. Heat oil (takes 15 minutes with the FryDaddy). Use enough so that wings can be submerged.
  2. Place defrosted wings into the oil. (No need to coat wings or marinate)
  3. Fry for 10 minutes
  4. Meanwhile, melt butter in a pan under low heat (use as much sauce you want) then add an equal amount of the hot sauce. If you really like that sour flavor, add a dash of white vinegar
  5. When wings are ready, mix them with the sauce.

Try not to indulge too often. They are not very healthy, of course. But oh so worth it.
