End Your Sprint Cellular Contract Early

getoutofjailccYou may think that you are bound to your cell phone contract. You would have to pay some hefty termination fees to get out of it. There is, however, a loophole that can be used to get you out of that contract for free.

This “deal” has been around for years now but not many people are aware of it. I did this successfully several years ago with T-Mobile but it will work with any cellular company.

From a legal standpoint, you are no longer bound to your contract if the contract terms are changed on you. Cellular companies, not uncommonly, will change their terms slightly. Of course, they don’t really advertise this. But once you know about it, you can call them to get out of your contract.

Currently, Spint is the company that has changed their contract terms recently (1/1/2009). They increased their administrative fee to $0.99.

There are 3 ways to try and do this

  1. Call regular Sprint customer service at 1-800-877-4646
  2. Call the “special” customer service line at 703-443-4401
  3. Use the “chat” feature on the Sprint website (only available certain hours)

It may take several attempts. and some time talking to various people, but just stand firm realizing that you have firm legal ground to stand on.

Worked like a charm. I had to stay firm with the csr – but it worked! I was only 5 months into a 2-year contract. Thanks!
